Why Does Suffering Exist?

5/4/2016

Why? How did this happen? Did I do something wrong? If God exists, why is there so much hunger, disease, and suffering? These are all questions anyone asks. These are all challenging questions to give an adequate answer to.

Gods Original design was good and didn't have suffering. God only wants good things for you. The last thing God wants is to see us suffering. The reason suffering came to be was because of sin. That being said, sometimes God allows suffering to happen because it'll help you grow, get to a place where you need to be, and will always find a way to turn into something so amazing you'll be completely dumbfounded.

"when you are feeling tempted, it's not God. You are being tempted by the evil things you want. The desire leads you astray, resting in sin, and trapping you from good things, perfect things, gifts that are from God." James 1:13-18; we are the most important things God has ever created.

Suffering strips the flesh, molding us into different people. Christ, for example, came to earth and suffered to the greatest extent ANY human being ever could in all of history. He took up all of sins, was hated, persecuted, up to the very last beat of His heart. All so He could conquer death for us and if we were to suffer the same, sin would cease.

Our flesh has a desire to seek purpose healing, and comfort in the world. When you suffer, look to God, and you will starve your flesh and allow your spirit to grow.

"Christ suffered for us. So we should have the same thinking as Him. Strengthen yourself. One who accepts suffering in this life, has decided to stop sinning" 1 Peter 4:1

When we suffer, every fiber of our being cries out to rush through, bypass, or just skip over our problem all together. But something to remember is God does his greatest work in times of suffering! As much as you want to avoid and ignore it, embrace it and be patient.

Endurance:
"when you learn to be patient in suffering, you produce a valuable fruit that will be a friend in times of trouble. perseverance in the face of adversity will carry you through to finish strong and produce character" Romans 5:3-4

Strength:
In 1 Peter 5:10, peter made it very clear we will suffer. However, even though we suffer a bit, God will restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish us.

Eternal Glory:
"Suffering prepares us for eternity. In suffering we learn where our faith should be placed. God or this world. When you learn to place your faith in Christ, there is a shift in perspective that has eternal value" 2 Corinthians 4:17

God uses suffering in this world to bring about good. To try to grasp and comprehend this will only leave you exhausted, discouraged, and lacking in faith. "You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so i could save the lives of many people" Genesis 50.

Maybe your own personal experience will give birth to a personal ministry to help others with the exact same problems you just encountered. Maybe your testimony will help a non believer find God or reignite the flame someone once had for God.

"God will comfort us so that we might comfort others" 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
"God gives us grace and peace. Always thank God" 1 Corinthians 1:3-4

It's OK to wrestle with God in the middle of your suffering. Even King David, who had God's favor, would question God. God wants you to be honest and real with Him.

"David came to realize it's not healthy to live in suffering or sulk in sorrow. You need to get it together and just keep glorifying God" Psalms 43:5
