Ultimate Purpose of Prayer

5-8-2016

Chapter 4

"Whatever you ask in my name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son" -john 14:13

"For His name alone is exalted; His glory is above earth and heaven" -Psalms 148:13. Such power behind verses. I mean, God created everyone and everything. What's there not to exalt or praise him about? Most of the time we take it all for granted. Like waking up. Reading. Beaches. Travel mercies. Answered prayers big and small.  I could go on and on, but like me, I'm sure you don't want me to drone on an on and end up with a 10 page essay.

While God does answer prayers, sometimes he asks you to do things for him. "Everyone called by my name has been created for my glory" (Isaiah 43:7). Sometimes, well...sometimes what he can ask of you can just be down right strange, out of character, or even makes you go waaaay out of your comfort zone. For example. I'm very VERY reserved, quiet and I'll keep to myself when I'm around strangers or new people. Well at work, there was a sweet old lady and I could just feel a huge urge to pray for her. Not just in my head and keeping to myself like usual. But out load. In front of people. But I just jumped right on it holding my breath doing what I was told. This poor lady haf been having really bad back problems for a couple days and it hurt hernso much to walk.  You known what? After I said my tiny quick little prayer, shebleft the store. Then something amazing happened. She called me at work, after she got home, because she didn't have time to come back in straight to me. As soon as she walked out the store, she excitedly and almost tearful sounding thanked me so much for my prayer. Because as soon as she had left she said all the pain in her back was gone and she felt better than she had in a while! God will make you do some really crazy stuff(well what's crazy for you) and he will take that and run with it. He will make sure the output for your input is so huge and glorifying for his kingdom, that you'll be so abundantly happy you'll be in tears praising his name at the top of your lungs.

But you really want crazy? How about Abraham having to sacrifice his son Issac only to be told to stop and be supplied with a ram?! Talk about major glorification right there. Don't we have such a 'compassionate and gracioius God'?(psalms 86:15)
